Brethren and Friends, Jim Sasser here. A very good Monday morning to each
and everyone. It is good to be back at my com-
puter again. I hope that you have missed me this past week. Here is an
article from my files:

GOD HAS SPOKEN

Can you name one annual religious celebration authorized
and described in the New Covenant? Each week of the year,
Christians remember the death of Christ in observing the
Lord's Supper on the first day of the week and rejoice in the
remembrance of His resurrection on that day (Acts 20:7; 1 Cor. 11:23-29). In
reading the Scriptures day by day and thinking on spiritual things,
Christians rejoice in the grace of
God, that He sent His Son into the world, born of a virgin as
testified by the prophets, of the descendants of Abraham and
David, that He gave the Son the kingdom and all authority,
and that He sent the Holy Spirit to the Apostles of Christ to
reveal the New Covenant by which all men may come to God
by faithful obedience to His commandments. All things that
pertain to life and godliness have been given (2 Pet. 1:2-4),
and partakers of the New Covenant are warned not to go be-
yond the things authorized in the covenant (2 Jno. 9-11).

Religious people have instituted many practices and cele-
brations supposedly in the name of Christ, but totally without
His authority. Catholics have declared many "holy days," and
Protestants have gradually incorporated many of these into
their own activities along with some Jewish practices. Some
who have become members of the Lord's church have not
separated themselves from the errors of the world, but have
attempted (sometimes successfully) to bring into local church-
es those unauthorized and therefore unlawful practices. Christ gave Himself
for His people, to present them as new
creatures, pure and holy (2 Cor. 11:2; 1 Pet. 1:22; 2:5), as
those who have crucified the flesh with its passions (Gal. 2:
20; 5:24).

How successful one has been in his rejection of sin can be
seen in what he values most in whose authority he abides.
Who is your king, your master whose authority you respect?
"We ought to obey God rather than men" (Acts 5:29). "There-
fore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things
have passed away; behold, all things have become new" (2
Cor. 5:17). ----------- Gilbert Alexander.
