HOW IS UNITY POSSIBLE? – Number 7
For religious unity to exist there must be sameness of understanding and
sameness of application of Holy Scripture. An illustration speaks more than
anything else, let us examine Ephesians 4:3-7 to further simplify the problems to
religious unity of all people.
TEXT OF Ephesians 4:3-7, “3 giving diligence to keep the unity of the
Spirit in the bond of peace.
4(There is) one body, and one Spirit, even as also ye were called in one
hope of your calling;
5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6 one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in all.
7 But unto each one of us was the grace given according to the measure of
the gift of Christ.

CONSIDER THIS:
In order for religious unity to exist there must be sameness of acceptance
and practice of this “SEVEN POINTS OF UNITY”. Without mutual acceptance by
all religious people of these points there can be no unity [i.e. extending of
fellowship] with them.
There is a great deal of doctrine established whenever one examines these
seven points:
VERSE 4:
1. There is One Body – The church Jesus Built – Mat 16:18; Acts 2:1-47
2. And One Spirit – The Holy Spirit; revealer and upholder of all
things – 2Peter 1:21; John 14:26
3. One Hope – Heaven as an eternal Home for the righteous - 1 Peter
1:3-5
VERSE 5:
1. One Lord – Jesus Christ - Rom 1:1-4
2. One Faith – Jude 3
3. One Baptism – Acts 2:38 [i.e. for remission of sin] – Romans 6:3-4,
a burial in water.
VERSE 6:
1. One God and Father – The father of all mankind – Genesis 1; [i.e.
the father of Jesus Christ as man] - 2 John 3-9
CONSIDER THESE FACTS:
As we examine the seven points here in this passage we immediately reflect
on the disagreement among religions in the world about these points. There are
more than 15,000 different religions, sects, and religious fragments in
existence in our world. Many of these religions do not believe or accept these
seven points of Biblical teaching. As a matter of record I know not but a few
that accept any of these facts when they are extended and defined.
As we look at these few points in study number 7 it is becoming more and
more apparent that there cannot really be religious unity [i.e. in the absolute
sense of the word in the English Language].
