You Are My Child What Should I Expect?

I should expect you to depend on me
For I brought you into this old vale
If I fail to see to my own offspring
I am worse than the rankest of infidels!
I should expect some things of myself of course
To bring you up in the training of the Lord
At first you will only believe what I teach you
May I see that you learn to love and respect God’s word!
I should expect that you my precious child
Would "Obey your parents for this is right"
You must learn to honor and respect us
For at first we must answer for your plight!
The time comes when you leave my house
Decisions will then rest upon you alone
But don’t ever hesitate to seek my council
Even though you have made your own home!
Check what I have always lived and taught you
In the light of God’s own revealed word
To just believe it because I did and taught you
Would be inherited religion and that’s absurd!
Be like the "fair-minded" Bereans of old
Who listened to Paul then checked what God said
To see if what he taught was really correct
And they were commended as we’ve all read!
(1 Tim. 5:8,16; Eph. 4:28; Eph. 6:1-4;
Matt. 15:8-9; Acts 17:11).
