[Biblemat] Q> Mary

I have a question I need some help on. I've been studying by e-mail with a 
Catholic woman who argues that Jesus' brothers could not actually be Mary's 
children since He entrusted her to John's care at His crucifixion. My first 
thought was that Jesus may not have wanted Mary in the care of His brothers because 
they were not yet followers of His (John 7).  How would you answer this?
