Funerals Often Disturb Me

Well it isn’t within my prerogative
to assign the destiny of souls at death
Final disposition is in God’s hands
Christians should know this the best!
The majority will miss heaven I know
For Jesus speaks of hell’s "broad way"
However at just about every funeral
They’re all said to be in heaven’s way!
Regardless of the life one lived
Everyone is pronounced as saved
Their many failures are forgotten
When dressed to enter the grave!
What must some of the survivors think
When told "wicked ole John" was saved
But all the evil things that ole John did
Are at last forgotten at the open grave?
Though he never "obeyed the gospel"
Which is God’s power that saves
Yet the preacher says all is well
As they place John in his grave!
Or perhaps he obeyed then wandered
Wasn’t a faithful Christian ole John
Still when they preached his funeral
Ole John has gone on to be with God!
