Brethren and Friends, Jim Sasser here. A very good Thursday
morning to each and everyone. May God bless you and yours.
Here is an article from my recent files:
OWNER'S MANUAL
In many ways the Bible is much like the owner's manual of
a car. Most people leave it in its wrapper in the glove box and only take it
out if they have trouble. Then when they are
in trouble, they don't know where to go to find the answers
they need. However, if you follow the guide, you should enjoy many
"trouble-free miles."
We don't know what circumstances motivated the author
of Psa. 119. No doubt he was intensely aware of the conse-
quences of disobedience, yet he saw the positive side as well.
He knew that the statutes and precepts of God held the key
to a life full of meaning and purpose, joy and happiness.
"How blessed are those whose way is blameless. Who
walk in the Law of the Lord. How blessed are those who ob-
serve His testimony, Who seek Him with all their heart. They
also do no unrighteousness; They walk in His Ways. Thou
hast ordained Thy precepts, That we should keep them diligently. Oh that my
ways may be established to keep Thy
statutes! Then I shall not be ashamed When I look upon all
Thy commandments. (Psa. 119:1-6).
"Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes, And I shall
keep it to the end. Give me understanding, and I shall keep
Your Law; Indeed, I shall observe it with my whole heart. Make me walk in
the path of Your commandments, For I delig-
ht in it" (Psa. 119:33-35). Please take time to read vss. 97-105
We are living in a time when many people are doing what
is right in their own eyes (Jdgs. 21:25). Man's idea of mean-
ing and happiness in life is not the same as God's (Isa. 55:8,
9). What's needed is a return to the standard of God's Word,
where there is life and comfort in affliction (Psa. 119:50).
God's Word "is better to me than thousands of shekels of
gold and silver" (vs. 72).
If we want our life to run well, even through unsettled situ-
ations and rough circumstances, we must take the time to
study the "Owner's Manual." (True Christianity is accomplis-
hed by following the Owner's Manual, the Bible, in every detail required,
JWS). ------- Shane Williams in The Lilbourn
