Brethren and Friends, Jim Sasser here. A very good Friday morn-
ing to each and everyone. May God bless you and yours. Here
is an article from my files:

SIN IS LAWLESSNESS

We all sin. We all break the laws of God. The apostle Paul
wrote, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"
(Rom. 3:23). King David sang, "The Lord looks down from
heaven upon the children of men, to see if there are any who
understand, who seek God. They have all turned aside, they
have together become corrupt; there is none who does good,
no, not one" (Psa. 14:2,3).

The apostle John's emphatic, inspired statement sums up
sin: "Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin
is lawlessness" (1 Jno. 3:4).

John then pronounces God's answer to sin: "And you know that He (Jesus
Christ) was manifested to take away our
sins, and in Him there is no sin;" and "He who sins is of the
devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this
purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destr-
oy the works of the devil" (1 Jno. 3:5,8)!

A powerful spiritual war is going on that has our souls in
the balance of defeat and victory. This war between good and evil involves
our day to day choices as to whether we will
practice the righteousness of God or commit the sin of lawlessness (1 Jno.
3:9,13).

The battle of righteousness against lawlessness is illustra-
ted in the example of Cain not loving his brother Abel. We
are not to be like Cain "who was of the wicked one and murd-
ered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his
works were evil and his brother's righteous" (1 Jno. 3:12-15).

Love is the power that overcomes evil. Love moves God's
children to obedience to all that God teaches. Lawlessness is
far from the heart and mind of a Christian. Righteousness is
the choice and practice of a child of God not lawlessness! ----
