[Biblemat] Instrumental music

Can anyone direct me to published references or an Internet site that will site such on the development and history of the use of instrumental music in the denominations and the Catholic church.  I am especially interested in documentation of the negative comments about such from John Wesley, Martin Luther and other early Reformation notables and early Catholic leaders.
