Jessie Daniels,
Good day to all; this is one of my articles that was in the Wakulla area times, Preaching by Authority.
Preaching by Authority allows for nothing distinct from the word of God. The word of God is where we get authority for what we preach. Paul said;"And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God (1Cor 2:4-5)." It was by the power of the Holy Spirit that Paul preached the gospel, that's what Paul meant by my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power because Paul was baptized with the Holy Spirit. Jesus promises the baptism of the Holy Spirit to the apostles, and they were the only ones that received that baptism." And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you John 14:16-17)." The word world here meant mankind in general, the Holy Spirit baptism was for the apostles and the apostles alone. Jesus said, "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you (apostles) all things, and bring all things to your (apostles) remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you (apostles) (John 14:26)." The apostles were there and Jesus said that the Father will send to them the Holy Spirit baptism. Jesus said that the promise of the Holy Spirit would come on the apostles at Jerusalem. "Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye (apostles) are witnesses of these things. And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: (apostles) but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye (apostles) be endued with power from on high (Luke 24:46-49)." Jesus said, "But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you (apostles): and ye (apostles) shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth (Acts 1:8)." let it be known that Jesus was speaking of his apostles that they were to be the teachers for all-time, and to all nations. The word of God or the faith being delivered by the apostles, we are to earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints (Jude1:3). The faith is an organized body of truth; and that being delivered by the apostles. It is an authoritative body of truth; and once delivered means that it is a complete body of truth. Jesus said, "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth (John 17:17)." When we preach by authority we can only preach what the apostles preached or we commit sin. because faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Rom10:17)." Seeing that the apostles were baptized with the Holy Spirit, then when we read the word the God it is God speaking to us through his inspired word. "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works (2Tim3:16-17)." We are commanded to "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned (Mark 16:15-16)." this is the Great Commission and Jesus said that one must believe and be baptized to obtain salvation. Jesus did not say he that believeth and is saved can, or should be baptized. Peter said that baptism was for the remission of sin. "Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (Acts 2:37-38)." And Jesus said that his blood was for the remission of sin." For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins (Matt 26:28)." Jesus said that his blood was for the remission of sins, and peter said that repentance and baptism was for the remission of sins in (Acts 2:38). Does baptism save us? "The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a food conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: (1Pet 3:21). "Peter said, "that if any man speak let him speak as the oracles of God (1Peter 4:11)." We need to be obedient to the word of God, Jesus said that he became the author of Eternal salvation to all them that obey him (Heb5:8). We must be obedient to the word of God. "But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness (Rom 3:17-18)." We at the church of Christ want to preach by the authority of Christ, and to tell you that you must hear the word of God and believe what you hear, and be obedient to it or be destroyed. "And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people (Acts 3:23)." Jesus Christ is that prophet, and we must hear his teaching, that is why we preach the gospel of Christ that ye might believe and obey it, for we are baptized into his death (Rom 6:3). The apostle Paul tells us that Christ will come to take vengeance on those that will not obey the gospel, "And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power (2Thess 1:7-9);" Friend if you are looking for the truth, come and visit the church of Christ at Wakulla, you will find a warm welcome, and only the truth of God's word will be taught. "The churches of Christ salute you (Rom 16:16)."
