1 John 5: 6
If any man see his brother sinning a sin not unto death, he shall ask, and God will give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: not concerning this do I say that he should make request.
If any man see his brother sinning a sin not unto death ...
(No Christian could possibly know whether or not one had committed a sin "unto death" or not); I disagree that a Christian could not know when one has committed the sin "unto death" the sin unto death is simply a sin that a brother will not confess, if we know of a brother that has sinned and we go to him about this sin (lets say living in adultery) and he is unwilling to repent this would be a sin "unto death" this would be apostasy, and he is dead in his sins. James. 5:19 brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way, shall save a soul from death, and shall hide an multitude of sins.
(And God will give him life for them ...) that is, if he repents of his sin then God will give him life for them, that is the sins he has committed. I have known people that have sinned a sin "unto death" that is because they would not confess them, that is a sin unto death. John said "if we confess our sin, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1John. 1:9).
