Brethren and Friends, Jim Sasser here. A very good Saturday
morning to each and everyone. May God bless you and yours.
Here is an article from my files:

GOD HAS SPOKEN

     God has in many instances given us the specific goals of
the things commanded of us. Even without such specific in-
formation, we should obey the Lord just because He is God,
and has the right to tell us what to do. When He does tell us
why, we shouldn't argue with the why as if we know better
than God what His purposes are.

     God's command is, "This is My beloved Son in whom I am
well pleased. Hear Him!" (Matt. 17:5). What reasons are given that we hear
Him? Jesus said that thoe who have heard and have learned from the Father
come to Him (Jno. 6:
45). "The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are
life" (Jno. 6:63). "So then faith comes by hearing, and hear-
ing by the Word of God" (Rom. 10:17). We hear to do (Matt.
7:24).

     The goal of believing is eternal life -- salvation (Jno. 3:16;
Mk. 16:16). The goal of repentance through faith is eternal
life -- remission of sins (Lk. 24:47; Acts 2:38; 11:18). Jesus
was exalted to the right hand of God to make possible repent-
ance and forgiveness of sins (Acts 5:31). Confession of faith
in Jesus Christ is unto salvation (Rom. 10:10; Matt. 10:32).
Baptism commanded by Christ and in His name is for (unto)
remission of sins -- salvation (Acts 2:38; Mk. 16:16). The goal
of godly living, is eternal life (Rom. 2:6,7). The goal of endur-
ing trials is acquiring patience and salvation (Jas. 1:2-4,12;
Matt. 10:22).

     The objective of the Lord's Supper is to remember always
the death and suffering of Christ for our sins (Matt. 26:17,18;
Lk. 22:19; 1 Cor. 11:23-26). The goal of worship is to honor
God, expressing praise to Him with thankful hearts (Jno. 4:
23,24; 1 Cor. 6:20; Heb. 13:15). The objective of godly living
is to be acceptable as the children of God, to walk in the light
of God, to have a better life here as we journey to our eternal
home (Matt. 5:9; 1 Jno. 1:1-10; 1 Pet. 3:8-15; 2:11-25).  Sure-
ly, by these examples, we can see the purpose of life and the
goals and objectives of the obedience that makes our lives
acceptable to God. ------------ Gilbert Alexander. </HTML>
