Brethren and Friends, Jim Sasser here. A very good Monday
morning to each and everyone. May God bless you and yours.
Here is an article that recently came my way:
CHRIST, OUR HERO
If ever a hero was needed, the Israelites had a great need
during the days of King Saul as they fought with the Philistin-
es. They were being embarrassed both morning and evening,
for 40 days (1 Sam. 17:10), by a huge Philistine named Goliath.
David, the youngest son of Jesse, had brought supplies
for his brothers in the army. He was there when Goliath came out mocking the
Israelites. Unlike the others around
him, David was furious and asked for permission to go out
and fight Goliath. David was confident that the God who had
delivered him in times past, from a lion and a bear, 1 Sam. 17:
34-37, would give him victory over this giant. Of course we
know the rest of the story. God delivered the mighty giant
into the hands of the young shepherd.
David's conquest reminds us of Jesus Christ's victory. We were
hopelessly enslaved by sin and needed a hero to
save us. God sent His Son Jesus to deliver us. He came to
earth, faced the same kind of trials that we go through (Heb.
2:14,15), and went to battle for us. "Since then the children
share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of
the same, that through death He might render powerless him
who had the power of death, that is, the devil; and might deliv-
er those who through fear of death were subject to slavery
all their lives."
In His death and resurrection, Jesus won total victory over
sin and death (1 Cor. 15:54-57). Likewise, His triumph guaran-
tees us victory in our walk with God.
Do we fully appreciate what Christ has done for us? David
accomplished an amazing feat for the Israelites but it pales in
comparison to what Jesus did with His death on the cross.
