A CHRISTIAN - 1Pet 4:12-19
1. CHRISTIAN: Follower of, belonging to, Christ - TEXT.
2. Divine calling - Isa 65:15; 56:5; 62:2; Acts 11:26.
3. Apostolic endorsement - Acts 26:28-29; Text.
1. IN FAITH A CHRISTIAN IS A BELIEVER.
A. Trust Jesus as The Son of God - Jn 8:24; 3:18a; 20:31.
B. Believe the Good News - Rom 1:16-17; Mk 16:15-16.
2. IN KNOWLEDGE A CHRISTIAN IS A DISCIPLE.
A. DISCIPLE: "A learning follower" - Jn 8:31.
B. Means He and His cause are first - Ex 20:3; Mt 6:33.
1. Necessitates self-denial - Lk 9:23; 14:33.
2. Must be stronger than family ties - Lk 14:26.
3. IN CHARACTER A CHRISTIAN IS A SAINT.
A. SAINT: "Separate from common condition/use" - Rom 1:7.
B. Catholic idea unscriptural - Jn 17:17; 1Cor 6:11.
4. IN INFLUENCE A CHRISTIAN IS A LIGHT.
A. Influence for Lord should be compelling - Mt 5:13-16.
B. Satan's effort is to get us to neglect our duty, lose our zeal, love the
world - 2 Tim 4:10; 1Jn 2:15-17.
C. Guard our influence; Keep it powerful - 1Thess 5:22.
5. IN RELATIONSHIP A CHRISTIAN IS A CHILD OF GOD.
A. Become children by faith - Gal 3:26-27.
B. Expression of God's love - 1Jn 3:1; Mt 6:9.
6. IN CONFLICT A CHRISTIAN IS A SOLDIER.
A. Not carnal - 2 Tim 2:3-4; 1Tim 6:12; 2 Cor 10:3-5.
B. Must stand when struggle - Eph 6:12; 2 Tim 2:3.
C. Our only weapon is sufficient - Heb 4:12.
7. IN PROGRESS A CHRISTIAN IS A PILGRIM.
A. Short time here - Psa 90:9-10; Heb 11:13-14,16,24-25.
B. Be prepared to leave - Jas 4:13-15; Psa 90:12.
8. IN EXPECTATION A CHRISTIAN IS AN HEIR OF GOD.
A. Will be a glorious inheritance - Rom 8:17 cf Heb 1:2.
B. Never lose it - 1Pet 1:3-5,9; Phil 3:20-21; 1Jn 3:2.
CONCLUSION:
1. Summary; Is He glorified by the way WE wear His Name?
2. Do you desire to take this Sacred Name upon you? If you believe and if
you are willing to repent of sin and error, one thing stands between you and
salvation from past sins, "...Why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized and
wash away your sins...." Acts 22:16; 1 Peter 3:20-21; Acts 2:38,40-41.
