Brethren and Friends, Jim Sasser here. A very good Monday
morning to each and everyone. May God bless you and yours.
Here is an article from my files:

GAMBLING -- YOU BET YOU'LL LOSE

Did You Know: -- 2/3 of the Amrican population placed some kind of bet
last year.

It is believed in 2005 over $200 billion was wagered in America in all
forms. The total cost to the US military for the
Iraqi war in 2005 is $120 billion.

Scratch-ticket buyers spend an average of $500 a year on
lottery tickets. Man are much more likely to buy tickets than
women. Half of Americans bought lottery tickets last year.
One third of adults surveyed visited a casino in that same time period.

Internet casinos are the fastest-growing sources of gamb-
ling. In December of 2001, just 64 casino sites recorded an
astounding 13.6 million visits.

You are six times more likely to die from lightning than win-
ning the Minnesota State Lottery. Odds are 240,000 to 1. Odds on the
California State Lottery are worse, at 18 million
to 1. And the worst odds are the interstate lotteries like Pow-
erball, where the odds of your winning are 1 in 54 million.

2/3 of all teens in Amrica gambled in some form last year.
15% of those teens are at risk of developing a gambling addic-
tion, and another 8% are already problem gamblers.

CBS reports that TV poker championships have created a
false sense of success at cards, luring teenagers to gamble
at poker. "Kids don't realize they're watching the final round
where one person wins big. They don't see the hundreds
who lost tens of thousands the day before, " says Linda Fears, editor of
Family Circle Magazine.

These facts all point to the conclusion that gambling is a
risk no responsible, godly, steward of money should take.
