Hands or Feet?

There is the story from time gone by of some men talking about their horses. One man said his horse was sixteen hands high. ("Hands" being an acceptable measurement for horses, one hand is four inches). Another man was eager to brag about his horse and, not wanting to be topped, rashly said his horse was sixteen feet high. Certainly that would have been quite the horse! The story relates how the second man's error was pointed out, but he was a proud man and absolutely refused to change from sixteen feet. It seems that he just couldn't bear admitting that he was wrong no matter how preposterous his claim. Such is an example of how pride interferes with truth. There are probably many, many folks who see the truth of God's word and the error of their own practice. Yet they will not make any change because the change would be an admission of error and they cannot bear the thought of admitting they are wrong. So they remain in error and gain nothing. "Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD" (Prov. 16:5).
