Brethren and Friends, Jim Sasser here. A very good Friday morn-
ing to each and everyone. May God bless you and yours. Here
is an article from my files:

LACK OF MORALS

One need look only at the "entertainment page" of the
daily newspaper to observe the rapid decline of morals in
America. The first show was captioned: " Misconduct--a wild,
wacky sex comedy." It was illustrated with two naked people
a couple wrestling in the nude! A co-hit in this travesty upon
decency was: "Prelude to Ecstasy, a sensuous film, daringly
told." Under the picture of a man and woman in a passionate
embrace were the words: "He like them young, she loved them all." Is it any
wonder, therefore, that qualified historians
affirm that America stands on the brink of ruin?

Our morals, or lack thereof, will cause us to crumble from
within, just as the decadent Roman Empire faded away seven-
teen centuries ago. A nation cannot long endure when the
moral fiber is at such a low ebb, for "Righteousness exalteth
a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people" (Prov. 14:34).
The television diet is increasingly vile and immoral. Motion
pictures constantly indulge in the pornography and smut
industry. Best selling novels reek with filthy words and pro-
fane expressions and suggestive innuendoes. Entertainment
classed as "for the family" can even make one blush at the
"off color" jokes and obscene gestures. The words of some
of the popular songs are often merely ungodliness set to mus-
ic. The Christian can only sigh: "Where, O America, do we go
from here?"

We cannot allow ourselves to be swept up by the promot-
ional campaigns of a godless society. Members of the Lord's
church must rebel at the vulgar story and unseemly attitudes
so prevalent about us. We must be repulsed by the scanty
clothing and calculated immodesty of our day (1 Tim. 2:9-12;
1 Pet. 3:1-5). It is well known by political scientists that one
of the stratagems of Communism was to weaken America by
lowering our moral standards. Even an unbiased optimist
can see the solemn reality of their victory in this area. The
broken-heart of the weeping prophet sums up our dilemma:
"Let us lie down in our shame, and let our confusion cover us; for we have
sinned against Jehovah our God, we and our
fathers, from our youth even unto this day; and we have not
obeyed the voice of Jehovah our God" (Jer. 3:25).

Sinners need to be reminded of Isa. 57:21, "There is no
peace, saith my God, to the wicked." Millions today are walk-
ing in the darkness of spiritual apathy and defilement. Our
shameful lives will conquer us unless the monstrous contest
of wickedness is abated. It is as one ancient commentator
of the Roman era declared, "More evil is committed than can
be counted."

Christians are expressly charged in Eph. 5:11 "Have no
fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather
reprove them." We must keep ourselves pure by abstaining
from "the appearance of evil," as we "depart from iniquity"
(1 Thes. 5:22; 2 Tim. 2:19). There must ever be a clear line of
demarcation between the "fruit of the Spirit" and the "works
of the flesh" (Gal. 5:19-24). Gospel preachers will continue
to speak out against the modern dance and all other such ex-
pressions of lasciviousness, "revelings and such like!" Christ
cannot be magnified in our life unless we put our approval on
things that are excellent (Phil. 1:10,20). May the words of a
great gospel song impress upon us our responsibility:

Purer yet and purer, I would be in mind,
Dearer yet and dearer, every duty find;
Hoping still and trusting God without a fear,
Patiently believing He will make all clear.

Lack of morality is killing us. ---- Johnny Ramsey in Gos-
pel Minutes, Vol. 56, No. 6, Feb. 9, 2007.
