Agape & Phileo Love

Poets have tried to describe them with words;
Philosophers have tried in vain to be heard;
The artist have tired to capture it on canvas;
The BIBLE itself uses words to demand it!
 
Agape love is not an emotion but an attitude;
Wishing no ill toward the one to whom extended;
This is why it’s possible to "love one’s enemies";
Even wishing them well with all life’s amenities!
 
This agape’ love does not rule out self defense;
For we are commanded to "provide for our own;"
If not we deny the faith being worse than an infidel;
And the infidel cannot hope for that heavenly home!
 
Phileo, love springs indeed from one’s emotions;
It’s how we feel about our mate it’s about devotion;
It’s that mushy gushy feeling within one’s breast;
It too is most difficult to find the words to express!
 
Jesus said "if you love Me, keep My commandments;"
Surely this is how true "love" is properly expressed;
If we love Jesus Christ with all of our heart and soul;
We will always be found trying to serve our very best!
