Walking in the Light

"For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light."
"The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the
simple."

"But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with
one another...."
(Psalm 36:9; 119:130; 1 John 1:7a)

STAY IN TUNE TO - OUR FIRST LOVE

Richard Thetford

As Christians we have a "first love" and that is Jesus Christ our Savior and
King! We need to keep our hearts and minds focused on Jesus each day that we
live. Remember the Ephesians? With all their positive aspects and glorious
past history, with all of their diligent devotion - what did the Lord say to
them? "I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot
bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles
and are not, and have found them liars; and you have persevered and have
patience, and have labored for My name's sake and have not become weary.
Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.
Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first
works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its
place-- unless you repent" (Rev 2:2-5).

Don't Forget Our First Love!

We need to be very careful not to forget our fist love like the Ephesians
did long, long ago. There are many things that occupy our time and efforts
and if we are not careful then before we know it we will also be guilty of
leaving our first love, Jesus Christ! There is nothing more precious to us
as Christians as having our VICTORY in Jesus Christ. A Christian can reclaim
that first love by getting back to the basics of love, duty, and
responsibility. We are commanded to be "renewed in the spirit of your mind"
and to be "transformed by the renewing of your mind" (Eph 4:23; Rom 12:2).
Let's wake up and stay in tune to "our first love!"

DOING MORE FOR THE LORD IN 2008

Lalo Enriquez

MORE DAILY WALKING WITH JESUS IN 2008: Faithful members of God's family will
"walk with God" as "Enoch walked with God" (Gen 5:24), and "Noah walked with
God" (Gen 6:9). Walking with the LORD simply means that we live and act (and
react) every day as He instructs us in His Word. At work, school, home, or
at play - wherever we find ourselves, we respond to daily responsibilities
and/or pleasures according to the principles taught in the Bible.

MORE DAILY BIBLE READING IN 2008: Faithful members of Christ's church who
desire to keep a spiritual "edge" will read their Bibles as often as
possible. Even busy people can (busy people especially should) develop daily
Bible reading habits. Pick up a reading chart and make it a point to spend a
few minutes each day reading God's holy book. It could be int he morning
before going to work, or at lunch-time for just a few minutes, or at night
before retiring to bed, or anytime in between these. If you miss one day,
don't miss the next. Statistics show that it takes 21 days before daily
Bible reading becomes a habit, and only 3 days to break it. Commitment and
consistency are keys to success. "And they searched the scriptures
daily...." (Acts 17:11).

MORE FAITHFULNESS IN ASSEMBLING IN 2008: Assembling with those of like
precious faith at each appointed assembly should be of utmost importance to
every Christian. The times of worship and Bible study should be AUTOMATIC in
a Christian's weekly schedule. These are times when we are spiritually (and
mutually) built up and encouraged. Christians should depend on one another
to attend faithfully at all the assemblies set aside by the congregation.

MORE "CHRISTIAN" SOCIAL ACTIVITY IN 2008: Christians need to regularly
associate with other Christians aside from the scheduled assemblies of the
church. We need each other to encourage and strengthen each other. Over one
hundred times the New Testament writers use the term "one-another, love one
another, comfort one another, exhort one another, serve one another, use
hospitality one to another," etc. Christians should make friends from those
of the world (to evangelize), but our closest friends should be of those in
Christ!

DO YOU LOVE GOD?

Carrol R. Sutton

"And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God and the Father by him" (Col 3:17). This scripture
points out the importance of doing God's will in ALL that we do by word or
action! There are going to many souls that will be lost on judgment day
because they did not heed the words of God and Jesus. God says: "Not every
one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven;
but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven" (Matt 7:21).
Jesus said that those that hear His words and DOES them are wise (Matt
7:24). We cannot pick and choose which commandments of God to keep. Either
we are SINCERELY striving to do ALL his will or we're not. Lukewarmness
(doing some things, not doing others) is sickening to the Lord (Rev 3:16)!
Obedience to God's will MUST be complete (Jam 2:10). We must strive to do
His complete will from our heart (Eph 6:6; Rom 6:17), and it should be
habitual (1 Cor 15:58). What is your religious situation? Are you serving
God completely or in part? Your answer will determine your eternity.

THE NEW YEAR

Richard Thetford

Not a new beginning, but the beginning of a period of time in which we can
draw nearer to the God who will save us for eternity, or to bring upon
ourselves more reasons why the God of love cannot save us. The choice is
mine and yours individually.

If one (like Paul) who was a murderer, a persecutor of the Lord's church
could make necessary changes to become a saint and to know of a certainty
that he would go to heaven, I am suggesting that you and I can also make the
necessary changes to follow after him as he followed after Jesus Christ. It
depends on what we want and are willing to do.

May the rich blessings of God abide with us as we strive to serve Him
faithfully this coming year. Let's try to make this year our best year ever
in our individual service to God. We can do it if we make up our minds right
now that this is really what we want to do. Let's strive to bring one soul
to Christ this year through our Christian example and by Bible study. We can
do it. We must believe in ourselves and be determined to make positive
changes for the Lord and ourselves in 2008!
