Brethren and Friends, Jim Sasser here. A very good Saturday
morning to each and everyone. May God bless you and yours.
Here is an article from my files:
GOD HAS SPOKEN
"For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for
which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness,
and pierced themselves through with many sorrows" (1 Tim.
6:10). Money is useful as a defense when coupled with wis-
dom (Eccl. 7:12), but the wages of unrighteousness are filthy
lucre (2 Pet. 2:15; Ti. 1:10,11). Honorable pursuits are satis-
factory means of gain for individuals and for communities.
People who progress down the path of sin through drugs and
alcohol bring no honor to themselves or their community.
Surely a community ought to cleanse itself of every evil and
detriment that it can. Is the consumption of alcohol and other
drugs a book or a bane to the consumer and to the communi-
ty?
Prostitution is pursued for the love of money, and so is
gambling. Much revenue is generated for a few people at the
expense of their own morality, their own health, and often
their own lives. Would people be acting righteously and wise-
ly if they moved to legalize and tax these activities? "Right-
eousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people"
(Prov. 14:34). Is faith in the warnings of God cast aside for
gain from a mocker and a raging liquid (Prov. 20:1)?
Unrighteous deeds cannot stand. They will all fall togeth-
er before the condemnation of the Word of God. Christians
are bound by the commandments of God to separate them-
selves from all evil influences and sinful deeds (2 Cor. 6:14-7:1; 1 Thes.
4:7,8; Eph. 5:3-7). How, then, can Christians
support that which is unlawful in the sight of God, or be indif-
ferent to sinful and destructive practices? "And have no fell-
owship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather ex-
pose them" (Eph. 5:11). Are you a soldier of Christ, a child of
light; or are you in league with the power of darkness (2 Tim.
2:4; 2 Cor. 10:3-6; Eph. 5:8)? "It is hight time to awake out of
sleep" (Rom. 13:10-14). ---------- Gilbert Alexander. </HTML>
