WHY IS IT SO HARD FOR MAN?
[Man Can Know the Truth if He Will]
The religious world today is filled with so much misinformation that finding
the real truth on any religious subject is difficult. The reason for the
difficulty in arriving at the truth about so many religious questions may be
found in the dishonesty of many religious leaders, religious leaders who know
what the truth is but for personnel reasons do not reveal it to others.
The only reliable source of absolute religious truth is the Bible. Yet, too
many people are unwilling to accept the Bible as a source of absolute truth
because of personnel prejudices. There are so many people today who will avoid
acceptance of Biblical truth regarding baptism because their relatives
reject the Biblical benefits of it [i.e. “for the remission of sins”], saying
that Acts 2:38 does not mean what it says. This attitude is present even though
the verse is absolutely clear if one could cast aside personal bias and
accept the truth revealed. The same is true with many Biblical truths such as;
truth about instrumental music --- most religious people reject the plain Bible
truth about music in worship because they like to hear instrumental music
even though they know it is not authorized. The Bible truth suggests clearly
that vocal music is the only acceptable form of music with God – cf. Rom 15:9, “
and that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written,
Therefore will I give praise unto thee among the Gentiles, And sing unto thy
name.” ASV --- 1 Cor 14:15, “What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I
will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I
will sing with the understanding also.” ASV --- Heb 2:12, “saying, I will
declare thy name unto my brethren, In the midst of the congregation will I sing
thy praise.” ASV --- James 5:13, “Is any among you suffering? Let him pray.
Is any cheerful? Let him sing praise.” ASV
The same attitude toward truth is pursued over many religious questions
simply because people are uncomfortable about accepting anything that forces them
to make changes regarding actions or mental alterations. Yet, God says that
everyone must “mortify [i.e. beat back, crucify]” their own desires and
affections that conflict with His instruction cf. Rom 8:12-14, “12 Therefore,
brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13 For if
ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify
the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14 For as many as are led by the
Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” KJV
Finally, man may know the truth and accept the fact that the truth can make
a person “free from sin” if they really want it, cf. John 8:32. The truth is
God’s words [i.e. God’s Written Word – BIBLE] today, John 17:17 says so – “
Sanctify them in the truth: thy word is truth.”
Give up your hardness toward the truth, turn away from prejudice and
unreasonable attitudes and accept God’s Written Word. Jeremiah the ancient prophet
says of God that HE CAN LEAD US CORRECTLY but we cannot lead ourselves
correctly without God’s help, cf. Jeremiah 10:23, “O Jehovah, I know that the way
of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.”
