O Those Precious Memories!

Childhood at "Foster’s Grove"church of Christ
Model A’s and T’s were parked front and back
It was a one room house with a potbellied stove
The Gardner funeral home fans were in each rack
A bucket of water with a community dipper
An outside toilet was way out in the woods
Air conditioning was all windows wide open
O but those worship services were so good!
The building was nestled in Whitney Woods
Less than a mile from the Ky town of Cave City
Seeing the extended family all assembled there
Was to me a sight that was ever so pretty!
To hear C. O. Hughes as the led the songs
To hear grandpa Elzie Isenberg sing tenor
And all the blended voices singing together
Thrills my soul just to be able to remember!
Weekly communion was time consuming
A short sermon would often be recited
The prayers took us back to Calvary’s hill
Often tears in people’s eyes were sighted!
There was no clock on the back wall
The "allotted time" wasn’t so limited
Interest in preaching was greater then
He just preached till his sermon ended!
I think we need to recapture some things
Which characterized those good old days
We should take more "time to be holy"
Why not return to those good old ways?
(Acts 20:6-11; 1 Cor. 11:23-34; 2 Tim. 4:1-8;
John 4:23-24).
