Brethren and Friends, Jim Sasser here. A very good Saturday
morning to each and everyone. May God bless you and yours.
Here is an article that recently came my way:
GOD HAS SPOKEN
That God has spoken to us is awesome. Faith that God
has spoken to us opens the door of our hearts to listen to God and to heed
His instruction. Understanding how God
has spoken to us is essential to proper discernment and true
obedience to Him. Confidence in the understandability of what God has said
is fundamental and necessary to any posi-
tive response to God.
God has spoken to us (Heb. 1:1.2) by His Son, whose message was
delivered to us by those who heard Him (Heb. 2:3) as they were guided by the Holy
Spirit into all truth (Jno.
14:26; 16:13), even to the words used in this message (1 Cor.
2:13). These things were written so that we may believe in
Jesus Christ (Jno. 20:30,31; Eph. 3:3,4; 5:17), and how can
we believe a message that we cannot understand? The inspir-
ed writing of God's Message is called Scripture, both the Old
Testament and the New Testament (Jno. 5:39; 2 Tim. 3:16,17;
2 Pet. 3:14-18). The citing of Scripture to prove any point is
wasted effort if people cannot understand the Scriptures. Are some
Scriptures more difficult to understand than others? Yes (2 Pet. 3:16). Are they
incomprehensible? No
(Eph. 4:15; Rom. 15:3-6).
Brethren, if you do not believe in the understandability of
the doctrine (teaching) of Christ, what reason do you have to
believe that people can understand the plan of salvation (which is also
doctrine), or understand why Christ died and
arose on the third day? Why should we try to teach people
that which cannot be understood; in fact, what arrogance
would move us to teach anything since we cannot understand
what others cannot understand what others cannot under-
stand? How can Christians everywhere be of one mind regarding any aspect of
God's Message to us, except to agree that God's Word is incomprehensible?
Since people do
not agree on the existence of God, the Deity of Christ, the
virgin birth of Christ, faith in Christ, or any other Scriptural
subject, must our conclusion be that God's Revelation is not
understandable? Are we weaving a tangled web? "I am not
mad, most noble Festus, but speak the words of truth and
reason. For the king...knows these things..." (Acts 26:25,26).
------- Gilbert Alexander. ("Therefore be not unwise, but understand what
the Will of the Lord is" Eph. 5:17; "Ye shall
know the truth and the truth shall make you free" Jno. 8:32.
