Tim McPherson (Re. Trashing the Bible)

I know it sounds so horrible and shameful and I must admit I have plenty of
old worn out Bibles on my shelf. However, the pages are simply paper and ink
There is nothing special about the pages or ink except for a very special
message printed on that paper. If the message is blurred and unreadable, and
even some pages missing, one would be serving God's word a noble purpose to
discard it. The word is corrupted and the message distorted. The paper and
ink is not sacred and if the message is not readable it needs to be disposed

(As a sideline, if we are the sinners Bible and the print is blurred on the
Christian and unreadable by sinful conduct, is this cause for church
discipline , I think so.
1 Corinthians 5:5 through 1 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV)
5 deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his
spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. 6 Your glorying is not
good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? 7
Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you
truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us
 )

The comparison of the flag with the Bible might not be a good parallel. Men
might impose regulations on things they honor and even laws might regulate
such. God has not imposed such a law on the paper and ink of a worn out
untrustworthy Bible. However, if one were like Jehoiakim and took his
penknife to the pages of God's clear and plain word that is another story.

My dad told me that he once studied with a women who had torn the 2nd
chapter of James out of her Bible. She did not like the passage "faith
without works is dead" and "not by faith only".

Hi list members,

Kenneth E. Thomas here:

There must be some wise answer to the following question. The one asking
already admits that an old worn out Bible is only paper and ink, but still
has a problem disposing of the same. On the one hand, he admits that it isn
t an object to be venerated but on the other hand...How would you answer his
question?

I once found an old Bible in a class room that was in terrible shape with
whole books missing and decided to use it in a lesson. Each point I made of
passages certain ones disregard, I would tear a page from this old worn out
Bible. The first page I tore out and crumpled up and threw in the floor I
heard gasps all over the house. Later one of the elders told me he almost
spoke up to stop my from proceeding. While I thought it was an impressive
lesson, I never repeated it again anywhere due to some people's reaction.
Following is the question:

Friends:

"Arrangements are made to dispose of soiled, ruined American flags, properly
and with dignity. What does one do with the dilemma of an incomplete,
falling apart Bible? I know it's only paper and ink, but it IS the word of
God, I can't throw one in the trash. Any suggestions?"
