Hi list members,
Kenneth E. Thomas here:
There must be some wise answer to the following question. The one asking
already admits that an old worn out Bible is only paper and ink, but still
has a problem disposing of the same. On the one hand, he admits that it isn
t an object to be venerated but on the other hand...How would you answer his
question?
I once found an old Bible in a class room that was in terrible shape with
whole books missing and decided to use it in a lesson. Each point I made of
passages certain ones disregard, I would tear a page from this old worn out
Bible. The first page I tore out and crumpled up and threw in the floor I
heard gasps all over the house. Later one of the elders told me he almost
spoke up to stop my from proceeding. While I thought it was an impressive
lesson, I never repeated it again anywhere due to some people's reaction.
Following is the question:
Friends:
"Arrangements are made to dispose of soiled, ruined American flags, properly
and with dignity. What does one do with the dilemma of an incomplete,
falling apart Bible? I know it's only paper and ink, but it IS the word of
God, I can't throw one in the trash. Any suggestions?"
