Kenneth E. Thomas here with a question for anyone who wishes to give your
understanding of what John means when he says, "If we confess our sins, He
is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). The first part of the verse says "He is
faithful and just to forgvive us our sins." What does the rest of the verse
mean when it says, "and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness?" It is
simply said for emphasis? If the Christian has been forgiven hasn't he also
been "cleansed of all unrighteousness in the process?"
